FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions

Since becoming engaged, there are several questions that we keep being asked. Or more specifically, that Lisa keeps being asked. For some reason people don't ask the groom a lot of questions. Please think of some and we'll have Brett make up some answers.

These are the questions we've gotten so far.

It's about time!
First, that's a statement, not a question. Remember in elementary school when you'd have a list of sentences and you'd have to decide if they were declarative, interrogative, or exclamatory, and then put the right punctuation at the end? Lisa always thought they could all end with an exclamation point if you said them right. Guess her life is just more exciting than the lives of people who write elementary grammar books. But anyway. We've lost track of how many times we've heard that since we became engaged. We like to think that rather than being about time, it's the perfect time. Thanks.

Where will you live?
Brett owns a home in Tucson. So that seems like a good place to live. Lisa's apartment lease is up the end of November, which is part of the reason we are getting married in November.

What about Lisa's studies?
Lisa is past the half-way point in her course work and just has her research and dissertation after that. Currently she has no plans to stop working on her degree, even if kids join us before she finishes. It will work out.

Speaking of kids, when will you get pregnant?
First things first (ie, the wedding). And we'll do that when it's the perfect time too. (Actually, nobody has asked us that yet, but we figured we should get that one out of the way as soon as possible.)

What about a bridal party?
We are not having formal bridesmaids and groomsmen. There really isn't a role for them in an LDS wedding. Instead we are honoring the important men and women in our lives in different ways.

Is Lisa changing her name?
Lisa thinks that the proper words should be used if at all possible and likes to argue the meaning of phrases with Brett. She will not be "changing" her name, she will be adding to it or "taking Brett's name." She will not be changing who she is, she will be adding more. Brett agrees with her on this phrase (while he maintains that the general public won't understand her when she says it). Other phrases, they're still working out. Lisa is also taking a course on identity (specifically in elementary math classrooms, but it applies) this semester, so she'll probably go on about this for a long time if you give her the chance.

Where are you going on your honeymoon?
This question makes Lisa laugh as she tries to figure out the motivation behind the question (Lisa's other class this semester is a second semester of studying motivation). Does the asker want to crash the honeymoon? Does the asker think they will be invited on the honeymoon? Is the asker just trying to make conversation? Does the asker just want an excuse to talk about their own honeymoon? As soon as she figures out what the motivation is, she'll answer it. For now the answer is that Lisa and Brett are going to enjoy some time together for their honeymoon on a vacation that is perfect for them. In other words, we don't know yet where we're going, but we'll know when we get there.
